Ray Fitzpatrick: Annual Report 2001-2002

Ray Fitzpatrick (Faculty Fellow) continued with his research with colleagues in Oxford, Institute of Neurology, London and University of Birmingham on measuring health status, quality of life and effects of health care interventions in a range of neurological disorders including multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, motor neurone disease and dystonia. He also continued research with colleagues in the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre evaluating outcomes of orthopaedic surgery for hip and knee. He began a programme of work with colleagues in the Department of Paediatrics, University of Oxford on factors influencing uptake of childhood immunisation. He served another year as member of the Council of the Medical Research Council and as chair of the Health Services and Public Health Research Board (MRC). He continued as a Governor of the BUPA Research Foundation. He served another year as head of the Department of Public Health, University of Oxford. In October 2001, he became Director of the Institute of Health Sciences, and also became a member of the Medical Sciences Board, University of Oxford.
