Access and admission

The Library will be closing to external (non-Nuffield) members from Monday 5 February until sometime in the summer.

This is due to the current extensive building works taking place in College, which will affect the Library entrance and ground floor over the coming months.

  • External readers are welcome to use the Library and borrow books (if eligible) until closing time on Friday 2 February. Books borrowed from the Library will be loaned for the usual loan period, even if this goes beyond 5 February. Any books due back after 5 February should be returned to the College Lodge.
  • If you need to consult a book or other library material that is only available at Nuffield during the closure, this will still be possible on an exceptional basis – please email library@nuffield.ox.ac.uk to request access.
  • If you are due to attend a seminar in the Library’s Cole Room, this will continue to be possible – the organiser will make arrangements for access for the seminars.

We do not yet have an end date for the works, but expect that it will be sometime in the summer. We will write to all registered external readers whose cards remain valid to advise of the reopening date once it is confirmed.

Current members of Nuffield College (including Associate Members) will still be able to use the Library 24 hours a day, 7 days a week but the access route may change.

Unstaffed periods:

Christmas 2023: 25 December - 1 January
Easter 2024: 28 March - 2 April
