The Strategy Structure of the College Admissions Stable Mechanisms
Session: C-5-15  Sunday 13 August 2000  by Sotomayor, Marilda
We consider the cooperative College Admissions market game of Gale and Shapley (1962). For this market we propose a class of stable matching mechanisms where a set of candidates is assigned to a set of colleges according to a stable matching rule. The preferences and quotas of the colleges are fixed. Each of these mechanisms induces a strategic game that starts when the candidates are called to play. We show that these non-cooperative games can be regarded as a process for achieving a cooperative outcome: every strategic equilibrium outcome is in the core of the cooperative market game. Precise answers can be given to the strategic questions raised.
