New England in the Fall

Of course, New England is renowned for the colour of the trees in the Fall - and it's all true. The maples turn bright red and look even better than the golden tree in this photo. Walking in the forest is nice - the autumn days are warm and sunny, but the air is still fresh because the nights are cold and frosty. (The frosty nights are caused by the Continental climate and the cold air flowing down from the Canadian Arctic. It is the low overnight temperature which creates the brightly-coloured leaves by crystalising the sugary sap in the trees).
